I have added Dropmyrights to all Internet-facing apps and run Avast alone, with Malwarebytes scheduled to do Quick Scan nightly and Deep Scan once weekly.
I feel that is “light” but is it effective?
Not much testing out there of Dropmyrights (I am running it as “N” mode because the C and U - stricter rules “boink” all my browsers and PDF readers).
I have been using DropMyRights for many years with XP Pro and multiple versions of avast from 4.x through to avast 6.0 and I have never had an issue with it.
I don’t apply any parameter to the dmr shortcut command to run the internet facing application.
Ditto DavidR. I also deploy Amust 1-Defender to ensure that there is a default browser that runs in limited mode. I have not found a way of having a default browser run under DropMyRights.
I have never yet had an application running with limited user rights allowing something bad to gain a hold on my system.
Incidentally, I see that you also run Outpost Firewall 7.5. Have you also discovered that OPFW 7.5 is now so compatible with Avast! 6 that you can run it with realtime Antispyware and Web Control enabled? I have been operating this way since OPFW 7.5.1 was introduced in July 2011. The two work perfectly together.
Well using the DMR shortcut without a parameter/switch, defaults to ‘N’ (normal user) anyway, so there should be no need for the OP to set a parameter.
I have got it, but I don’t show the itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny, sub-sub-ordinal in my signature, were in most cases it doesn’t mean that much, Outpost Firewall Pro ver. 7.5.1 (3791.596.1681). The exception being avast! as that matters ;D
