I am having a problem. Immediately following my purchase of Avast Professiona 4.7 anytime I try to log into hotmail, it jumps into HTTPS and stays on the blank white page saying it was done loading. It does this for all sites that start with HTTPS. It seems to have deactivated my active X controls and Java. I tried disabling Web Brosing and script blocker and nothing helped. I then triep uninstalling avast and that did not help either. I am running Windows XP SP2. My firwall is the winndows default firewall. I am using IE 7.
Just as a note, when I was running the trial version of avast, there was no problem. As soon as I purchased avast I cannot access some sites, and even can’t do a restore point. Something is not working. Please advise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Yes, I first connect to an HTTP page to logon, then it is validated on an HTTPS page. It normally would go back to an HTTP page, but has recently been staying on the HTTPS page with no activity. This happenned after I installed the registered version of avast, that is why I assumed it had something to do with avast. I installed nothing else. What could it be?
This used to be a common thing we saw with people who had Zone Alarm Pro with its privacy function set on high, effectively it stopped the passage of parameters between secure and non-secure pages whilst using the web shield proxy.
I know you aren’t using ZA Pro, but perhaps something like this is happening here with the Vista Firewall. Unfortunately I won’t be of any practical help as I don’t use Vista.
You could try something though, disable the web shield transparent proxy and set IE7 up to use the proxy.
How to disable transparent web shield proxy and allow only those browsers you want use it:
In avast! go to Web Shield provider, Customize…, Basic tab, blank the redirected HTTP port field (remove the 80). Now no browser can use webshield unless you manually configure it to use Web Shield.
