avast and kingsoft

I’m running avast and ks and I have all the avast file (with orange icons) in ks’s trusted files are there any others I should include like dll’s?

Personally I wouldn’t have both installed on the system at the same time, it will be even more risky once the 2013 version of Kingsoft is released as that will have the full Avira database installed locally and not in the cloud.

I am having no issues with kingsoft since it’s a companion av, I just would like to know what avast files should be included in ks’s trusted files to keep the 2 from conflicting just incase?

The biggest issue is that resident anti-virus applications load low level drivers, and it is these which are more likely to come into conflict and there is nothing you can do to prevent that. The purpose of these low level drivers is to hook (intercept) files so that they can be scanned before being allowed to run.

Think of it as two dogs and one bone, this fight could at best duplicate scanning and at worst lock with either unable to scan the file. Far from providing twice the protection it could leave you less well protected.

So far you have been lucky not to have any conflict, but that luck rather than design.

Edit typo.

I am well aware that in most cases 2 av’s is BAD, but Kingsoft was designed to run with another AV, LOOK BELOW…

Same goes for Emsisoft but i’m not running that currently

I also understand that Avast doesn’t want their competition running with Avast but that’s my choice

If that is your choice I can’t understand why you asked ???

I generally don’t take anything on trust, there have been many instances (I have seen in the forums) of AVs that are meant to be compatible that prove to be incompatible.

If it is a resident on-access AV then it would be loading a low level driver to be able to carry out the intercept/hooking of files. I need a little more information than just their banner headline compatibility statement and a youtube video.

But it is your system and your choice.

I’m curious, which Avast are you running?

I just wanted to know what files should be excluded from Kingsoft in general? just to be double sure no conflicts could happen
that’s all I need to know…i’m running the latest version of avast

Here’s what I’ve excluded so far, highlighted items are in kingsoft’s trusted files list

You can’t really exclude low level drivers, the very area where a conflict could occur.

All an exclusion does is say don’t scan this file, it doesn’t say don’t scan any activity by this file/s.

This is not about what we want. There are simply too many things that can go wrong and it is impossible to guarantee compatibility with 3rd party code we know nothing about. It can work but it can also break depending how deep the other goes and how lucky you are.

The file scan is only minor part of our work and while there are conflicts (e.g. our virus database contains virus signatures and can be considered a virus by another software), they are the least important. Conflicts in drivers and library/application hooks can easily cause random crashes or BSODs and they are basically unavoidable.

Gator71 all I can say is it’s you’re computer and you can do whatever you like no matter how hard you’ve scratch your bare arse with a metal brash, we (all the avast users) would never run two anti-virus software and I would strongly agree what Pondus has post. So like I said is you’re computer and you can do whatever you like and please don’t complain that you have further problems, no matter how hard the mod avast users have try to help you because you won’t listen because we never run two anti-virus software together.

It’s easy to misunderstand people online…I appreciate the advice and info and normally I just use avast by itself, but I like experimenting lol so I was just trying to get the best settings possible for my current setup is all.

I am not worried if I get any negative issues cause I can rollback very easily and start over.

Off topic…has the issue with avast web shield and comodo internet security been fixed? I’d love to run that combo again!

It will only be fixed when comodo fix it, as the problem is on their side.

A very loose explanation, their firewall isn’t using a particular windows network redirect API so they can’t determine what process is using the avast localhost proxy from the proxy itself.

Thanks for that info

You don’t need to exclude anything, Kingsoft Cloud works fine out of the box with avast!.
