Avast and Malware

Does Avast scan for malware? I just ran a scan using Emsisoft Anti-Malware and it showed 87 threats.

Any replies would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Silly… Why do you think that Emsisoft is not overalerting just to bring you the impression that its detection rate is that high?
Are the files PUPs? False positives?

Try uploading them to www.virustotal.com and post back.

Replies would be entirely speculative as you provide no information on the detections, e.g. file name location and malware name, etc.

Odds on these are tracking cookies, a big deal about nothing.

yepp …may we see the Emsisoft scan log ?

I wasn’t able to upload the files. They were called Tracer files, whatever that means. Emisisoft is junk and I uninstalled it.

Most of the Tracer files came from Weatherbug. When Emsisoft deleted the files it also deleted Weatherbug which caused it not to work. It was still in my program files so I uninstalled it then reinstalled. What a pain.

That means cookies… Big numbers look good

Are cookies really spyware and are they dangerous?

avast and malwarebytes does not scan for tracking cookies…

if you run a program like CCleaner …it will empty the cookie folder

if you run a program like CCleaner ...it will empty the cookie folder
Only if you let it..... ;) I don't.

true … why ?

If I delete the cookies than the next trip to that site requires that I again re-enter the information which the cookies that
got wiped out contained.
I have better things to do with my time then to make more work for myself by deleting something that stores information’
that helps me when I visit a site repeatedly. (Like this forum.)

There’s a bit more to Spyware Traces than just cookies.

Trace.File.
Trace.Directory.
Trace.Registry.
Trace.TrackingCookie

Which is why we asked for more information.

In CCleaner’s cookie options you can set it up to keep the cookies you don’t want to delete. That way it will only get rid of the ones you don’t want.

I’m aware of that but it’s too much work. It’s easier to uncheck the box and bypass that function.
