Hi
Since I have installed avast (Home edition), the volume shadow copy feature of ntbackup (on Win XP Pro) does not work any more. I have found a thread on this topic on an MS support group that seems to confirm that avast in some way corrupted the registry. Please see the link below. And, btw, I like avast and want to continue using it.

bfrei, please send me an export of the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Antivirus
Just start RegEdit, open this key, and in the File menu click Export…
Save the file somewhere and send it to my e-mail address.
I’ll have it reviewed and will send you a fixed version that will hopefully solve the problem.
Thanks

OK, we’ve found the problem. You don’t have to send the file anymore.
A fix will be updated in next program update.
Thanks for reporing this,

Thanks for the fast reply. I have deleted the key from the registry in order to make volume shadow copy functional again. Will this hurt my avast installation?

Absolutely not. In fact, it was recreated by avast automatically (you can check this in regedit), this time with the correct format.
