Avast and Nvidia drivers

Every time I want to update my gpu driver, I need to uninstall Avast, reboot and then install the driver and reinstall Avast again.

If I don’t do this, Avast just blocks gpu updates and pretty much disables the previous installation of my gpu driver just for kicks.

What the hell.

Why uninstall, why not just pause shields?

anyway, does avast give a message? if so what does it say

I’ve tried disabling Avast, didn’t help.

And Avast doesn’t give me any error messages.

The only thing I know, is that after uninstalling Avast, I can install my drivers normally.

Are you by any chance using Comodo (even just firewall) with avast? There is a massive glitch that causes NVIDIA drivers to fail with Comodo installed. Though not sure why uninstalling avast! would solve it.

Can you give more details on what other security software you (may) use, what is your OS exactly etc…

Huh.

I am using Comodo.

Windows 8.1 64 bit

I’m aware of the issue on Windows 10, not sure if it also affects Windows 8.1. Basically, all you have to do is close the Comodo (CIS) GUI (right click on trey icon and exit). The app still runs protection, just interface won’t conflict with ForceWare anymore. Try that and see how it goes.

Which one do you mean?

Avast or Comodo?

Because I don’t think you can shut down Avast.

Holy shit, you were right.

I shut down Comodo in the tray bar and I was able to install the drivers.

Thank you!

Yeah, the issue seemed too peculiar to be related to avast! because I’ve experienced it with Comodo first hand (I also use NVIDIA). I heard the issue is on Windows side and it’s getting fixed with the big anniversary update for Windows 10. Till then you’ll just have to exit Comodo GUI before you update ForceWare.
