Avast and Outlook Express

Hey

I have been running avast on my computer for some months now and I love it.

Still there is one thing that I don’t understand: How come it dosen’t work with Outlook Express? maybe its just me that dosen’t fully understand avast. If that is the case plase guide me.

I have checked the “FAQ” and all I can find is:

"Q: The provider of ‘On-Access Scanner’ called ‘Outlook/Exchange’ is still waiting for a subsystem to start. Is anything wrong?

A: No. This provider runs only when MS Outlook (not Outlook Express!) or MS Exchange is running. If you don’t use any of these programs, the provider doesn’t run either."

So avast and Outlook Express simply dosen’t run together or what?

The Outlook/Exchange plugin works with MS Outlook (not Outlook Express).

No
The Internet Mail provider works with Outlook Express (not MS Outlook)

Just a technical note: Internet Mail provider does scan mails from full Outlook in the situation where the Outlook / Exchange provider is either uninstalled or maybe just turned off.

Hey Tech

Thanks for your reply and for the welcome.

Have I understand this correctly? If I start the Internet Mail provider, the mails from Outlook Express will be scanned?

Qmads

Yes, you’ve understood me correctly.
Internet Mail provider is a Windows Service (are you using XP?) and will be started when you open Outlook Express to get or send mail.

Thanks a lot for the support.

Yes i use Xp and as far as I can understand everything is now ok.

Great forum by the way.
