Avast and Plug and Play problem

Hey Guys,

I’ve been trying to fix this problem for the last couple of days, and I have finally given up.

For starters I have Windows XP, the problem is that my Avast Home cannot work with my Plug and Play. When I turn off the Plug and Play, Avast starts up fine, but when I turn it back on, the computer turns on, then goes to the desktop, the little avast icon in the toolbar appears, but it has that little red circle with a line in it.

I have tried system restore, that works but then when I restart the computer, the problem comes back. I have downloaded microsofts “update” it seemed to worked, but then when I restarted my computer it stopped working again.

My computer works alright without the Plug and Play, but when it is off my audio doesn’t work, my keyboards shortcut buttons don’t work, and and sometimes my windows take a little longer to load. I do have the latest updates from avast.

Any help with this would be great, I just want to get it fixed! Thanks

That’s rather strange…
How exactly do you disable Plug and Play?

I right click on “My Computer” then click on manage. Then expand “services and applications” then click on “Services” and then find Plug and Play and then disable it.

Hey Vik,

Thanks for the help but it didn’t work. When I restart my computer it still freezes up. If I let it sit for an hour or so, it still is frozen
