I had the Kaspersky AV installed for some time, but it expired few days ago. I wanted to give the avast! a try, but after installing it,it didn’t enable the resident protection, saying that i still have the KAV installed and running on my computer. The problem is that i DID uninstall kaspersky first, removed the ntfs streams, deleted all it’s registry entries, even deleted some of it’s files in the documents and settings folder and system folders-but still couldn’t “convince” avast that it’s uninstalled. Eventually, tried reinstalling avast couple of times, but that didn’t help. Does anybody know how to solve this problem, since i’m starting to get a bit frustrated (using EZ antivirus for now,but would really like to give avast a try, only if i could)
Did you try using scandisk? What OS are you using?
I have windows XP pro, with MS antispyware installed and using the built-in firewall. Why do you think i should scan my disk (i suppose you mean the windows checkdisk function), do you think that might help in some way?

KAV removal tool: http://www.ice-kav.com/utilities.php
Maybe, just delete KLIF.sys file.
According to which Kaspersky product you were using (http://www.ice-kav.com/tools.php):
KAV 5.x removal utility: KAV_Registry_Clean.zip
KAV 4.5x removal utilty: KAV_Rem.zip
AntiHacker removal utilty: KAH_Rem.zip
Ok,i’ll give it a try,thanx.

Thanks very much, i hope to be satisfied with this program (well, it’s not kaspersky, but why not give it a try…)
I felt my computer a bit overloaded when had kaspersky. avast needs less resources.
Yeah, it really does use less resources that kaspersky. ;D
