Avast and Shareaza - problem

Hi,
I have a problem, which appeared about 2 weeks ago.

A few seconds after I close Shareaza, Avast starts scanning something on my harddisk.

My PC slows down and I can hardly do anything on my computer. Even shutting down does not work well.

today I un-installed avast and now everything is working as it should. I am using now AVG.
But I would prefer using avast!!

Does anyone know this problem and has a solution?

My System:
Win XP Prof SP2
AMD 64 3400+
ASUS K8V SE deluxe
2x 512 MB Ram

Are you downloading an *.ISO file when this happens?

no, I do not download *.iso files at the moment.

Mainly files packed with Winrar.

But I used avast and shareaza for about one year and had never before this problem.

Wasn’t there a program update of avast around christmas?

I was experiencing this when downloading *.iso files, but it would only occur when the file size was fairly big, like over 200mb.

Terminate the p2p provider and see if the problem still happens.

Actually I had this problem too (so I stopped using shareaza :P). What sometimes would help is clearing the “incoming downloads” folders (I forget the exact name) where it stores semi-downloaded files, incase it is filled with stuff you later cancelled downloading.

When I terminate the p2p provider everything seems to work fine.
I will observe it the next days.

You could try this:

In the Standard Shield’s settings, turn on the “Show detailed info on performed action” option (it’s on the Advanced page) and then try to download some file & close Shareaza.

That way you can see what file(s) avast is scanning (there should be a popup window displayed in the bottom-right corner of the window showing this information). If those are not irrelevant files you could exclude them from future scanning.
