If “scan outbound mail (SMTP)” is checked (active) in mail shield settings, I can not send any mail using Outlook Express.
Up until few weeks ago it was just retrieving an error from smtp server. Now the whole application just freezes.
All goes well if this option is unchecked.
The same goes after disabling SSL option in mail shield settings.
Win XP SP3 (32) fully updated. Connected via router by adsl with no ports blocked or any special configuration. Never had such problems before.
Yes, follow the instructions that should have been in the same window that you unchecked the scan SSL connections. Reset your email programs SSL settings (ports and authentication, etc.) to what they were before. See image example.
Avast8 can now (by all accounts, excuse unintended pun) handle the SSL emails without having to modify your email settings in your email program.
If you previously had avast 7 you will have needed to change your email program, account settings to allow avast to scan SSL email, these changes need to be reversed, e.g set back to the SSL ports and Authentication.
Delete the entries for your email accounts in the avast Mail Shield > Settings > SSL Scanning.
