I noticed there alot of options on the F8 menu including a debugging mode, safe mode with networking and command prompt. Would the command prompt allow us to select Robert or Admin to start up?

Sadly it didn’t work… went straight to our problem screen again…

Seems to me ever since we did that avast uninstall and accepted that reboot to safe mode, it won’t boot any other way. Is it possible to run that again and not accept?

Download the uninstall utility and run it from the usb command prompt

Select command prompt
Locate the drive letter of your USB as you did before
Then run this command :

avastclear.exe

Okay I assume you meant to go to Run in the start menu and browse for the file there which I did and it says the same thing I need xp sp2 even though I have sp3…Sorry if I am doing it wrong…

OK place the Avastclear file on the USB
Reboot the computer and repeatedly press F8
From the list select command prompt
At the command prompt type

wmic logicaldisk get caption,description,filesystem

This will then list all your drives including the USB

Caption Description FileSystem
C: Local Fixed Disk NTFS
D: CD-ROM Disc
E: CD-ROM Disc
F: Removable Disk
G: Removable Disk
H: Removable Disk
I: Removable Disk
J: Removable Disk FAT

Then type at the command prompt J: (as an example)
press enter
Type dir and ensure that avastclear is there
Then at the command prompt type
avastclear.exe

    Here is the list I get on F8 : Safe Mode; Safe mode with networking; Safe mode with command prompt; Enable boot logging; Enable VGA mode; Last known Good configuration (your most recent settings that worked); Directory Services Restore Mode; Dubugging Mode; Disable automatic restart on system failure; Start Windows Normally; Reboot; and lastly Return to OS Choices Menu. I tried safe mode with command prompt, ended up on same old screen. 
       I tried last known, that gets us nowhere also, that Directory Services Restore Mode sounds promising...?

Yes I tried that, most of the kb works just fine except on that log in screen we are stuck on…
