Ok I had XP Pro on my laptop but now have Windows 7 Professional. I notice it has Windows Defender. Is it ok to run the Windows Defender and my Avast Internet Security? I also have another question. I have a purchased Malwarebytes Pro. Should I use this on my Windows 7 laptop or put it on my wifes laptop that has XP Pro on it and I would just use Malwarbytes free on demand? Thanks!
As for Defender, it does not cover anything Avast! is not already (IMO) so I have mine turned off.
Without a doubt I would drop the MBAM Pro on the XP system rather than the Win7 machine.
Windows Defender is an integral part of win7 and you can’t actually uninstall it (annoyed the hell out of me) only disable it, which I would recommend, given that you have MBAM Pro.
So essentially you could use SuperAntiSpyware and or MBAM free on your wife’s XP Pro laptop with avast!
I would keep your eye open as there may be deals for MBAM Pro come up periodically (subscribe to the MBAM newsletter) so a cheap lifetime license for MBAM Pro would be better for her laptop.
So David you would just turn off the defender and install the Pro on my win 7 lappy? Also what about the firewall what should the settings be on the win 7 firewall should they be off as well? Do I need to set exclusions in my avast Internet security so it dont interfere with the Malwarebytes Pro? Thanks again.
Yes I would disable windows defender and use MBAM Pro on the your system. The avast firewall in AIS is compatible with the win7 firewall, so it could be left on.
However, I don’t know what resource use is like on your system as I would say 2GB for win7 pro is a bit light in my opinion, so not having the windows firewall enabled may save some.
I haven’t set any exclusions for MBAM Pro on my systems and no conflicts, I have added the c:\windows\temp_avast_ folder to the MBAM Pro Ignore List.
Ok thanks for your info.
You’re welcome.
Malwarebytes is discounted for multiple devices, the cost is low for a lifetime license and there are some coupon codes out there if you Google, one at present gives 20% off.
Avast7 (AIS) and Malwarebytes Pro were fine on my lads machine at 2GB of RAM, he had no issues at all, we only recently upgraded his system to 6GB.
There are instructions on the Malwarebytes site for exceptions/exclusions for running the 2 programs together, we have had no issues at all on our 3 machines and wouldn’t be withjout MBam Pro.
