Avast and Windows Update turning off?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 and the current version of avast antivirus, and of course I don’t have other antivirus programs installed. Over the past couple days, Windows Update (which I have set to let me know when there are new downloads but not to auto-install) setting turned off, and after turning it back on, avast real-time protection later turned off. I have never seen any evidence of conflict between those two before. I ran the most thorough avast, Malwarebytes, and Windows Defender scans and found nothing.

Any idea if this is some new conflict or bug with avast? I don’t know what to do next. Thanks for responding.

I actually was playing a game when the Windows Update setting was turned off, but not when the Avast real-time protection turned off. Are games relevant? I don’t often play on PC, LOL.

Yes, avast has the gaming mode which optimizes a system when you play a game.
Part of this process is turning of the updates.

Oh, you mean avast has a default setting to change Windows Update settings when playing a game? I say default because I wasn’t aware of a gaming mode and didn’t set it to a gaming mode.

I looked in the settings and found the gaming mode enabled that you were referring to. Why would Avast real-time protection have turned off later though? I wasn’t playing a game at the time.

I’m glad to have an answer as to why Windows Update was turned off but does anyone know why Avast real-time protection would have turned off? Has this been encountered in any common circumstance by others?

Repair avast ans check if that solved the problem.
If not perform a clean installation of the latest avast version and check again.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
