Avast Anti theft using lots of data

Hi, i’v been using avast internet security and anti theft on my android for about 6 months, usually avast anti theft uses 2-4mb of background mobile data per month but this month it used over 24mb. I have checked the command log and it has received no commands, i have not changed any settings. Its OS is android 5 lolipop and the data usage graph for all apps shows a reasonably smooth curve with no massive spikes. I cant figure out why it is using so much data any ideas?
