Avast Anti Virus stops after memory test?

I am running 4.7.1001 Professional on WinXP. I have reinstalled the program several times without success.
I start the Avast Anti Virus from the tray menu. The splash screen shows up and the memory test begins and it then says the program will continue. The splash screen disappers and then nothing happens. Thank You in advance for your assistance.

In addition to Chocholo’s question, I’d ask: if you watch Task Manager’s list of running processes, what happens when the splash screen disappears? Normally, the splash screen process (ashAvast.exe) should disappear and the Simple UI process (ashSimpl.exe or ashSimp2.exe) should be created…

Can you run “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe” “*STRT-MEM-SHORT”
Which should be equivalent to the initial memory scan and post what you get?

When I ran ashSimpl.exe and ashSimpl2.exe from the Avast folder as requested by chocholo, they both worked fine. When requested by IGOR to watch the task manager processes, I started the Avast Anti Virus from the tray menu (bringing the curson down to be able to view the tray processes) When memory test finished, the Enhanced user interface appeared. So it seems the problem is solved. My uneducated guess is that Comodo authenticated the ashSimpl.exe when I ran it from the Avast folder but would not when run from the tray??? I do thank you all for your assistance and truly appreciate your timely response.
