avast! antispam not blocking obvious spam

I’m running Avast! 6.0.1203 under Windows 7, and using Windows Live Mail as mail client. I have antispam set to High sensitivity, but I still get a barrage of messages with obvious references to male body parts in the subject, offering me all kinds of medical products. I won’t quote any here, as they’re likely to get blocked! Can anyone advise on how to get antispam to do it’s job?

Thanks, Mark

I didn’t think avast could scan windows live mail as it uses a different protocol, maybe thats changed ??? anyway i get all these weird spams as well but im only using web based hotmail without the windows live client for this reason that i dont want that rubbish comming into my computer, another option is to use thunderbird as its a far better client than windows live and i never had spam come to my system when using thunderbird.

Windows Live Mail as mail client.
@craigb you can use (pop/imap) accounts like Like Gmail/yahoo/opera mail with Windows Live Mail Client....

but the Microsoft account like msn mail / Hotmail / Live mail use delta sync

I should have been more descriptive as i was only talking about the link between hotmail and windows live and not even thinking about the other providers, my mistake. Still better for the OP if he was to change over to thunderbird though imo if he’s wanting a better mail client to use with whatever his provider maybe.

Widows Live Mail client is very good with those Microsoft accounts…
it have one thing all the others is missing…it also sync the contact list, nice if you need to reinstall, then it is all back at first mail check
it is also very easy to sett up with microsoft accounts…name / mail address / password and thats it… no server name and ports…

for all others i use Opera browser with built in mail client…but thats me

Yes the contact list sync is a handy feature in windows live but i found it was always so glitchy when opening mail plus it’s slow and a very large program too, im happy with my web based setup nowdays since iv only got one mail account now, so much easyer
I better quit with all the OT anyway, nice chatting with you Pondus

For me, using avast antispam since it was released, it’s more or less innocuous.
I receive very little spam (one per week). avast never blocked anything… It passes just it comes.
I know, Gmail antispam is doing the dirty part of the job… Hundreds a week.
So, if Gmail fails, avast won’t block it either…
Sorry to post so negative experience, but, after all, whenever I try to discuss this in forums, my opinion stay alone…

I know, Gmail antispam is doing the dirty part of the job... Hundreds a week.
So the solution.....if you dont want spam...get a Gmail account ;)

Absolutely.

I think i read somewhere the other day Bob mentioning that he had never recieved spam until he got himself a Gmail account.

Mark,

Maybe these knowledgebase FAQs actually can help you?

KnowledgeBase → Avast 6.x →

→ What is Antispam?

Just an additional, (only 4 questions / answers down) not directly related to Windows Live Mail client:

→ How does avast! 6.x secure web based e-mail services such as Yahoo!, Gmail, etc.?

Please don’t hesitate to ask again if that doesn’t help.

Bob loves spam as he wants to become a millionaire:
