Avast AntiVirus Issue - Network Shield

Hi I just recently installed the program today (And reformatted my this laptop), when I got it started the network shield was not on. Sooo I went “Okay, just a little glitch”, I went to turn it on, BOOM wouldn’t.

This is a Windows 7 HP OS, Windows Firewall is enabled, anything else you guys need?

Before this computer was reformatted I had Avast and ZoneAlarm installed (Barely used ZA because it would lag my computer).

are there any error messages? is it when u try clicking on ‘fix now’ nothing happens?

whats ur system specs (eg windows 7 32bit service pack 1) not HP OS. the brand is not important.

No error message, it’s just when I am clicking “Fix now” and “Turn On” nothing happens.

Windows 7 32bit (I’m not sure if I have a service pack)

You could try a “Repair” of Avast. Not sure how to access Add and Remove Programs in Windows 7.
BUT>>>>>>>For XP go to Control Panel/ Add-Remove Programs, find Avast and Click Change/Repair then scroll down choices and choose “Repair” then follow instructions and Reboot.
Maybe this will help.

I’ll try this right now!

EDIT: Didn’t work. The program itself seems a bit slow also.

I suggest

  1. Download a fresh Avast! 7 package from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download (to reduce chance of corrupted install)
  2. uninstalling Avast! the normal way with windows
  3. run Avast! uninstall utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (please do it in SAFE MODE! )
  4. run the uninstall utility1st time for Avast! 7
  5. reboot and go into safe mode once more, 2nd time for Avast! 6 (this is IF u have updated to Avast! 7 from Avast! 6)
  6. reboot again, this time to normal windows mode
  7. install the fresh package
  8. please report ur findings here =)

My current ver is 7.0.1426

yes, but did u have any previous version of avast on ur system? eg. v6? or u are certain that there is only avast v7 on ur system.

having previous versions before the current version (v 7.0.1426) on ur system will require u to do additional step 5.

if not please skip step 5.

I got it working!

I you can say how you got it working ?

It may help others using the search function in the future.

I’m also curious as to how the OP resolved his issue. :-\

Uninstalled it with Windows.
Restarted without SM
Reinstalled
BOOM.
