Avast Antivirus Main-Program do not start !

Hello !
(i´m sorry about my bad english :frowning: )
Yesterday i installed the AVAST Home Edition and after the restart i wanted to start the main program to configure it.
BUT no chance !
Avast crashed with some obscure error msgs…
(at the moment i am at work, so i cannot exactly remember the mesages)
I also was not able to stop the Gard-Task (the little blue symbol in the Taskbar)
I uninstalled/installed it once again… same result ???

Before installing Aast i used Antivir, but the uninstall of Antivir was clean…
I use Win2000 with SP4 and have Zonealarm installed.

Maybe someone had the same Problem.
Plz HELP !

I guess we’d need to know that “obscure error message” for a start…

So, late but there…
The first Error Msg is…
Unknown error.
Storage cannot be created for the “Splash” task.
OK
… after pressing OK …
Unknown error.
Configuation is not loaded properly. Error: dbsCreateObject
OK
… after pressing OK …
Unknown error.
Programm cannot save parameters to the storage! (Error:
dbsCreateObject)
OK
… after pressing OK …
NOTHING… no Mainprogram in sight…not at all…

Strange, isn´t it ???

Do a search on these forums for dbsCreateObject, this has been a topic several times before.

This thread should however provide a solution. But there is a vast ammount of information available via the search function.

or

The solution could be:
Download RejZor’s application (‘Control’ on my signature), run it and change the storage method from ODBC to XML.

or

Click on ‘Settings’ in my signature, search for the work XML and see what you have to change in your avast4.ini file.

Good luck

Thx for the fast replies !
I know that i did something weird with my ODBC Database drivers…

This would not fit in there, but does anyone know how to repair ODBC Drivers in Win 2000 ???

Besides, i will try your tips in the evening…
thx !

Download MDAC 2.8 at Microsoft website (Microsoft Data Access Components). 8)

Now my Avast Antivir-Program is working fine.
But only with XML-Database…
Even with downloading an installing MDAC 2.8, ODBC is not working.

Ich think i destroyed some registry keys, an now i dont now how to repair it.

Well, sh… happens !

Thx alot for helping ! ;D

Not necessarily… Do you have MS Office installed? Which version?
