Perform a repair of avast.
If that doesn’t solve it, perform a clean installation with the latest version (or beta if you want) and check if the problem is solved.

What exactly is a repair?

OK, I found it. Thnx Eddy

JC20032017

FAQ section (search and find) >> https://support.avast.com/support/home

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204
If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

I did the repair, but that did not work. I don’t know what the clean install is.
Is that I uninstall and then re-install?

Thnx

Totally uninstall and then re-install. just follow the directions.

Ummm…If I do that, would I loose my custom scan?
I have one that I don’t want to lose. Can I save it somehow?

-JC20032017

Sure. Just write the parts you want to keep in place down and re-create the custom scan after you get everything else running well.

OK, I was guessing that might be the solution. I can only hope it works.

Easier way, export your settings and reimport them after the reinstall.

I don’t know how exactly to do that, also, I am not very keen about uninstalling and then re-installing.
Just to be honest.

  1. See: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB15#artTitle
  2. Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)

I Use avast free anti-virus, just like in those pix on the link.
I think it might be 2016, cause that’s when I got it (If I remember correctly)
That was actually quite helpful. Thanks!

You’re welcome.

For a clean reinstall, follow instructions…

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Well, I am trying to install, so we’ll see how this goes.

Well, unfortunately, I have tried the following:

Repairing Avast
Re-installing Avast

Nothing has worked. I just finished re-boot, and I have the same problem :'(.
