I use Avast Premier. I recently re installed windows 7 on my sony vaio s series laptop because it became very slow since i unknowingly installed many unnecessary programs. Now it runs fine and fast. Yesterday when i ran avast deep scan, i got 3 threats in 1st scan and nearly 183 threats in the 2nd scan done immediately after that (namely “threat: rootkits hidden”) (i have attached the screenshots). But when i tried ‘delete’ or ‘move to chest’ i had these errors resp “Action postponed to next reboot” and “aCCESS denied”. so after rebooting, i run deep scan for nearly 6 more times but scan results were clean. then I downloaded avast aswMBR and ran a quick scan. But I could not understand anything of the scan result… (I have attached the log file of scan result)… Plz help my anyone… I ll be grateful… PLZ :-[
This sometimes happen if you do a scan right after a Windows update so nothing to worry about
Next time…
Virus and false positive help is done in viruses and worms forum section
At top in that section you find a how to revive help guide
Thank You so much… God Bless U
And 1 more Question …
Does a red line in the scan result of avast aswMBR mean that there is a rootkit or a threat? What does it mean? Plz help…
Im now doing a C:\ scan (instead of quick scan done which i had attached previously) and the scan contains a red line…
AswMBR scan appears to be non-Malicious, however, I will contact a remover to confirm that for you.
If you wish, attach an FRST log for the extra step, making sure you got rid of the “extra” programs.

Thank U so much for your timely help…
I have attached the FRST file from the FRST Tool…
Is there any threat in my Win 7 laptop?
Thanks in advance…
Just now i did an avast aswMBR C:\ scan (previously i had attached an aswMBR quick scan)…
It has a red line in it… And I dont know what it means…
Is it a threat or a rootkit?
If it is, what should I do to remove it?
Please someone help me… I have attached a screenshot and the log file of C:\ scan…
Thanks in advance…
Someone please help
The file is a Sony file and is legit. Ignore it.
Thank You So Much…
God Bless You
I’m assuming yuo’re system is a Sony VAIO… If I’m wrong please tell me.
Yes… My laptop is an S series Sony Vaio…
Yeah, OK. Figured. Should be a legit Sony File. But to confirm, I have PM’d Essexboy to come here and check. He’s got more expertise then I.
Yes Please…
1 more Question… Suppose if i have any kind of threats in my laptop, will reinstalling the windows 7 help? Also how many times can I safely reinstall windows without affecting the health of the laptop?
And Thanks for all your help…
Reinstalling Windows would wipe everything.
As for the second question. No sweet clue. To give you an Idea, I went from Windows 8, to Windows 7, to Windows 10, back to 8 and then an update to 8.1… (As far as I know, it’s a Myth that anything can survive a FULL Re-Install)
My various Installs of Windows are much more in depth though. Going from 7 to 8 is slightly tedious as it requires formatting the HDD and switching from MBR to GPT (Which, while not painful, can take a while if you’ve no clue to what yuo’re doing).
Hint: I went blindly into installing 7, 8 and 10 on my own. No clue to what I was doing…
I will flag out Essexboy again as he knows much more then I do.
Concur as a false positive, no need to re-install
Just a few days back I reinstalled my Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio laptop…
But i unknowingly downloaded some “potentially unwanted programs” like freemake video converter etc… Also i made a blunder of moving some executable files from the old os to the new one( later i came to know that its a very bad idea)
So i am planning to reinstall the os to start from a clean state again…
what do u suggest?
and thank you so much…
In that case you can reinstall as many times as you like with no adverse affect. But before you start downloading any other programme (apart from an AV)
Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme
Thank you Essex
Completely forgot about Unchecky! It’s a great program(me)!
