“You should never use two resident antiviruses.”
And this is what you will encounter, if you install more than one. So, you have to decide which one you want to retain on your system.
You can uninstall MS Security essentials via Control panel. Here is the MS Security essentials uninstaller: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9748340 , just in case.
With avast + mbam you are totally protected, having more than 2 Antivirus or 2 firewall etc you will have LESS PROTECTION.
The risk is greater and I will tell you why. Usually security programs conflict with each other and the result is loss of functionality and you can easily predict what happens next.
We had a customer that uses 4 firewalls, 5 anti-virus software and 3 anti-spyware software. So, judging after you, this customer had a bullet-proof configuration. But you are wrong: he also had more that 10 malware active. QED & case closed.
Never install two antivirus (see reply from quietman7)

Go figure. Thats what you get when you install two antiviruses. Lock thread.
the guy’s computer is really infected with anything you can imagine; the fact that MSE points to this Avast temp file means that MSE detected Avast’s detections indexed in that file… I think… ;D
ps: lol at the title of this thread
edit: or may be a temp file containing VPS updates changes… not sure anymore… which would explain why MSE doesn’t detect anything else. In that case yeah, running two Av’s is the issue.
@ birdz123,
Please run the MSE Uninstaller Tool http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2435760/ then reboot your machine.
Clean your machine with TFC:
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop.
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtime/
· Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
· It will close all programs when running, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
· Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
· Once it’s finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.
If Avast is not working correctly after this because you had 2 AV’s on your machine, then run an Avast Repair:
You may want to read the first post of this thread under Virus/Worms for you to check your machine for malware: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0. Obtaining an OTS log will be the next step depending on the results of your logs.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you.
Gotta love the keygen find. What software was he trying to crack? :o
avast and MSE will conflict sooner or later.
Here, more is not better.
ok. now i have uninstalled MSE. reinstall avast and Malwarebytes.
MSE just detected what avast! has unpacked into its temp folder. This often happens if you’re using 2 antiviruses but you haven’t excluded certain locations from each other.
Did you run TFC after doing your uninstall? Have you run Avast scans and MBAM (update definitions first)? Did all come out clean now?
@SafeSurf. Yes done.
So is your issue now resolved? You came out clean on your scans and your problem is fixed? If so, please go back to the first open post in this topic, click the modify button in that Post and change the title/subject, add [Resolved] to the beginning of the title so this thread can be closed.
If you still have problems, please report them here so we can help you. Thank you.

i still believe my computer is running slow. I ahd a quick look at the other thread you spoke about but it looked a little confusing for my skill level.
Are you sure this is related as this topic is almost 8 months old ?
It would probably be better if you created your own new topic and outline exactly what your problem is.
