avast auto start...how???

I am running XP Home oper sys, Avast Home as my AV program. I would like to know if there is a way to run virus scans automatically…since a full scan takes ~ 2 hrs on my PC, I would like to run it at night when I’m catchin’ some sleep. I’ve tried using Windows Task Manager etc but all it ever does is start the Avast program but doesn’t run a scan. Any help would be much 'ppreciated…thanks in advance and have a good’un…

Kyle

You can schedule it with the windows task sheduler as has been explained in many threads here.

Please read THIS

Sheduling scans is a option in the pro version, not the home version.
(you get what you pay for) ;D
But a workaround is in the link above

Just one question : by this way, will it scan in zip files just like it can be set for a manual scan ; will it be a deep scan ??? or in the run parameter, after the drive to scan, must I enter something else ?

Sincerely.

Well I think so… you can test running ashQuick at context menu in a zip file, for instance.
It scans inside of archive files.

ashQuick.exe acts differently to the standard on-demand scan (exactly what I will leave to one of the Alwil team) although it does scan archive files, when used as a scheduled scan work around, it also scans every file on your system gif, mpeg, mp3, txt, files that ordinarily are no real threat of infection.

Personally I see no use for this and schedule a manual on-demand scan on my local drives (without archives) as a part of my regular weekly maintenance routine before I take a backup image of my HDD.
