Avast Auto Update

Hi,

I’m having some trouble updating Avast Home 4.7.892. Whenever it tries to update automatically (at least I think it’s every time) it comes up with the following error (or similar):

Information about current update:
Last encountered error: Cannot connect to download4.avast.com (67.19.185.26:80).

Total time: 36:37

However, I can update it fine manually. It started happening when I brought my PC to uni - I’m going through a proxy to connect to the internet. The fact that I can update it manually makes me think it’s more a problem with Avast than with my connection…

Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure your settings are correct under:

Left click the avast icon > Settings > Update (Connections) > Proxy

I think it’s better setting a proxy there then using the “Auto-detect” option.

Are you using ISA proxy with NTLM authentication?
If it’s the case, you may want to play with the user credentials of avast! updating service. Local service is not allowed to go thru proxy.

Thanks for your reply. The proxy doesn’t use any form of authentication as far as I know.

My proxy settings were set to Auto-detect in the connections settings, so its specified it there now. I’ll see if that makes a difference…
