avast auto update

When avast does an automatic update, when we open avast use inteface and go to update tab no progress is displayed there(update tab and auto updating are not in sync)…

because of this
, many times i have done a manual update while its been updating auto in background(because we re not at all aware of whether auto update is running in background or not)…

Better to display the update progress even during auto update when we open the update tab and have proper synchro b/w those two…

avast detects dial up and updates, but it cant detect broadband, otherwise i wouldnt update manually…

i posted this in next version’s feature wish list but they say i posted in the wrong place ??? :o…

It does, at least here…

  • Go to preferences-updates.
  • Uncheck dial-up and always connected.
  • In proxysettings choose direct connection.
  • Choose automatic update.
  • Restart your machine.
    Post back your results.

i have changed the settings as u said, but cant check today as i hav already the latest defns…
btw , can u please say whether its safe to turn off ''rootkit scan at startup" in settings–troubleshooting menu??
i currently dont have any virus, and is it enough to use it only when v r infected??
i think it is the reason why windows freezes in “loading ur personal settings” for 2-3 sec…so pls tell whether i can turn off ? also tell me wats a rootkit and how it enters(infects) a pc

  1. So we have to wait…
  2. If you’re on a clean system, you can turn it off.
(I wouldn’t ‘weaken’ my protection because of a 2-3 sec. delay. But it’s your choice.)

oh k… wat happened to vrdb generator and memory scanning features of Avast 4.8, were they removed and replaced with any new features?

It was removed because it is a dated and now a bit devalued because of the new infections are more complex. So something that was designed years ago isn’t able to deal wilt the likes of virut infections, etc.

There are more actual cleaning routines within avast 5 that don’t rely on the old dated methods of the VRDB. Not all virus infections are covered as there are some that once they get established and infect files they are almost impossible to repair (virut again and Virtob comes to mind), as in some cases cleaning may well corrupt the actual file.

Because of your statements given here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=59134.0
I wonder if we should give support to you at all…?? :frowning:
