i don’t know why avast add this useless function it annoying me every time i run or install trusted program finally i disable it and every time i install avast in my friends or family computers the first thing i do disable autosandbox
Some people find this function very helpful, but you have your own opinion which is fine. If you find it more helpful to disable it, that is why Avast makes it’s software so that users can configure it for their needs. Not all companies do this for their users. Enjoy Avast without the Sandbox to suit your needs.
It is a safety net, not all programs are going to have an intervention were you have to select an option. Why not as you find a program which you are sure is clean and trust, just select Open normally and check the Remember my answer for this program option, done.
After a short time if you have many occurrences of different program being pinged you will have dealt with them as above. Now you have that additional level of protection without too much hassle, it just takes a little time when you start.
Personally I feel you are doing others a disservice in having them disable it, educate them and let them make their minds up.
Thank you for providing balance. Of the 20 or so avast! 6 users I’m in regular contact with, the only question I’ve ever been asked about the Autosandbox is, “Does the Autosandbox actually do anything?” Either there is something amiss with your avast! installation or the “trusted programs” they are using are not the same as yours.
It’s a bit annoying sometimes but i’ve also found it very useful in some situations. One even happened today.
I was installing Tom Clancy Advanced Warfighter game through Steam and while Steam is installing required stuff like C++ runtimes, DirectX and it also tried installing outdated AGEIA PhysX driver (for this one Auto Sandbox jumped, but i selected to open without it this time). Because i already have the latest PhysX already installed one i skipped it. But each time i run the game it wanted to install this outdated AGEIA PhysX driver. So next time i’ve run the thing inside sandbox. The driver installed but inside Sandbox only. So it never really touched my main filesystem. But the Steam is not nagging about it anymore because it thought i actually installed it. So Auto Sandbox is not entirely useless after all
On the other hand i do get few of these popups when running flash games on Steam like Machinarium, iDefense, Windosill and so on. That is a bit annoying and i’m sure they could make a dependence where in case of a Steam.exe that is digitally signed by Valve executes any external content, it shouldn’t fire up Auto Sandbox dialog.
some people haven’t experience with computer they don’t like antivirus with a lot of questions and pop up messages ???
That is of course why I mention the words ‘educate them’ in its use and benefits.
