It’s a bit annoying sometimes but i’ve also found it very useful in some situations. One even happened today.

I was installing Tom Clancy Advanced Warfighter game through Steam and while Steam is installing required stuff like C++ runtimes, DirectX and it also tried installing outdated AGEIA PhysX driver (for this one Auto Sandbox jumped, but i selected to open without it this time). Because i already have the latest PhysX already installed one i skipped it. But each time i run the game it wanted to install this outdated AGEIA PhysX driver. So next time i’ve run the thing inside sandbox. The driver installed but inside Sandbox only. So it never really touched my main filesystem. But the Steam is not nagging about it anymore because it thought i actually installed it. So Auto Sandbox is not entirely useless after all

On the other hand i do get few of these popups when running flash games on Steam like Machinarium, iDefense, Windosill and so on. That is a bit annoying and i’m sure they could make a dependence where in case of a Steam.exe that is digitally signed by Valve executes any external content, it shouldn’t fire up Auto Sandbox dialog.
