Avast Backup/Restore shortcut

Season’s greetings to All,

My question is:

Can I copy my Avast Backup / Restore settings from one pc on to a flash drive and then install them on to a newly installed Avast on another pc? Appreciably, this would be time saving instead of having to configure the new Avast from scratch. If done from scratch, I would have configured the new Avast the same as it is on the pc I copied the backup from anyway.

Best regards,
DCD

That’s what I do

Thanks for the confirmation, Adrian.

Next question:

Does the Back-up settings include your personal information i.e. Name, e-mail etc.?
The reason why I’m asking that is that I usually visit my moderately computer savvy sister in Canada, but wasn’t able to this year, and as she had to reload Avast on to her pc (but doesn’t have a Back-up file), I was thinking that if I e-mailed my Back-up/ Restore settings to her, it would avoid having to talk her through configuring her new Avast over the phone. But if the back-up contains my personal information together with the my saved configuration of the AV, it won’t make sense, as I presume her personal info will be overwritten by mine.

Looking forward to yours or anyone’s advice.

Regards,

DCD

Thanks. Guess I didn’t scroll down far enough when I was looking for that function.
My problem is that I get an error message when trying to save the backup:

hi bob,

you are welcome. don’t know about error issue. suppose you could try to run avast as administrator, maybe avast repair or clean install.
hopefully someone else has a better idea.

have a great day

Hi Bob,
Nice to meet you.
I see you got your answer from “skinnypops”. (I always keep a copy of the back-up on a flash drive in case of emergency). One great feature I like about the Back-up is that it even backs up your blocked sites.

I still haven’t recieved an answer to the second part of my post as to whether the back-up contains any of my personal info (name / e-mail etc.) which would be installed on the new Avast on the other pc (which is located 3,200 miles away in Canada). I actually e-mailed Avast support but haven’t gotten an answer back as yet (regarding the personal info bit), so I guess the next best alternative would be to connect remotely to the Canadian pc and spend some time configuring the new AV. Failing that I’d have to verbally give instructions over the phone and hope that it gets configured correctly.
I’m quite paranoid about using the Internet with just the basic AV defaults …and although the basic Avast defaults work, a reconfigured Avast explodes the true potential of the program thus making it the best it can be. I’ve been using it for about 15 years along with Zone Alarm and Malwarebytes and never had any problems except for the latest release of Avast, where my pc kept hanging. Avast, like most products made to be used on computers, is man-made and is obviously not 100% perfect, so we should expect some problems sometimes and have patience and confidence that the problem will be resolved. (To learn Patience, take up fishing.)
However, I’ve reverted to my previous 9.0.2006.159 version without any hanging problems, and will wait a while until I think any bug(s) have been sorted out and try upgrading again…Don’t get me wrong , I’m still a die-hard Avast user and will be unless something drastic happens to destroy my confidence in Avast.

My regards and the best of 2014 to you and yours, the Avast Team and the Forum.

Hi again Bob,
I’m not sure if this might cause the export problem but check to see if you have Avast “password” protected or “Hardeneed Mode” on. (You’ll find “Hardened Mode” under Settings>Antivirus…and Password under Settings>General>.). You could try turning both off and try exporting again.

DCD

No Password Protection and I’m not using Hardened mode.
One computer gives the error message and this computer does the task without problems:

Time to check the permission of the folder on the computer that’s giving the error.

FYI:

I’ve eventually received a reply from Avast Support regarding my query:

[i]"Hello, avast! Antivirus has a feature for backing up a settings of avast! Antivirus. It will backup settings for various scans and shields. It won’t contain any of your personal data.
