avast ball has measles

My system runs XP Pro SP3. I have the latest free avast installed. In my SysTray is the customary avast ball, but it is speckled, like it has measles, unlike the solid orange ball that was customary in the past.

Is this speckled ball something new? Any significance to it?

;D
Can you post a screenshot of the tray?

Is it similar to this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=54733

I had this problem a while back, and still do occasionally. Not really sure what causes it…

Image is attached (best I can do).

No problem on my XP Pro system.

You updated your graphics drivers:

I know that, and I still see the odd icon sometimes…I do remember what I post…

Indeed, I did update the graphics driver recently, and that might well have caused the change. I can’t be sure of the timing however. Regardless, I am now using the latest MS recommended driver for my XP Pro SP3 system.

MS certified drivers are often out of date

Is it possible that your system is running in 16 colors?

I run at 1024x768 with color quality Highest (32 bit)

Bingo!! I changed the Color Quality to Highest (32 bits), rebooted, and the avast orange ball in the systray was cured of its measles. Thanks for the tip. Funny, in all my other work, which involves quite a few images, I had not noticed a difference between the 16-bit and the 32-bit color.

Welcome to the 21st century.
