Avast beta 17.5.2295, 17.5.2296

Hi everyone,

new beta version 17.5.2295 and 17.5.2296 is here 8).

This is more service release. Internally, we did major change in our internal infrastructure which should improve release and development process.

Under the hood there are fixes of:

  • crashes in installer during VPS update
  • update GUI framework renderer - libcef
  • fixes in licensing library

Known issues:

  • [fixed in 17.5.2296] due to changes in driver signing, this beta may fail to install/run on new Windows 10 x64 devices with enabled secure boot. If the issue occurs, disable secure boot temporarily. It is going to be fixed in next beta.

Thanks for the new beta

I have just edited the original beta announcement. Please note, that:

Due to changes in driver signing, this beta may fail to install/run on new Windows 10 x64 devices with enabled secure boot. If the issue occurs, disable secure boot temporarily. It is going to be fixed in next beta.

Avast (2294) has an exclamation mark and is telling me that I ‘need’ to update to 2295 - to a Beta version?
Surely there should be a notification only for full releases. Also, there seems to be little benefit from the changes, especially lack of protection from ransom ware and other recent dangers.

If you have previously used the beta version you are on the beta stream and will be notified of a new beta. You need to install the regular program version to get away from the beta stream releases.

Hi Giraffe

I don’t agree with you here.

Avast Proactive Protection aka Behaviour Shield protected you perfectly well against the recent WannaCry Ransomware for example :
