According from Bitdefender forum the antivirus Avast does not detect so many samples as Bitdefender detect,I read it on BitDefender forum here >

they did that because of all the spammers, thats why you must register to View the Forum…

And now the spammers have no chance there.

Bitdefender has a good detection rate (some heuristic methods).
But, after all, not a software is perfect. Not even Bitdefender… so… you always need to choose.
The free version of BD is useless as an antivirus as it does not have a resident (on-access scanner). It only can be used as a second opinion of your real antivirus…

I use BitDefender online scanner for a second opinion, but it never finds anything avast! misses. It is reasonable & prudent to have an occasional second opinion as any av can add a detection before any other av. A year or two ago BitDefender online scanner did find a trojan on my computer, it was a new trojan that few had detections for. It is recommended to have a layered anti-spyware protection for the same reason.

I’ve read that 500 new viruses are written every day, but most are so poorly written that they can’t affect computers. BitDefender may have more detections than avast!, but if it can’t find any on my system that avast! misses, is it really better? I will still use BitDefender as a second opinion as nobody knows what will pop up around the corner.

Firstly,what do u expect from a AV forum???to say that the opponent AV(like avast) is better???noway…and secondly…i used bitdefender IS 9 and it was very very gd…bitdefender 10 is buggy for me while AVAST works like a charm in my pc and it’s effective as well…also its free of charge…i use bitdefender online scanner just to ensure that avast doesnt miss anything and if it does(it happened only once),i send the infected file to alwil to improve the detection… :wink: look…bitdefender is va very gd AV with high detection rates…i prefer avast though…its more suitable for my needs…and it has a very friendly forum which i love…which AV do u prefer depends on ur needs and on what do u like an AV do give u…so if bitdefender is gd for ya…i’m happy…its rly gd…welcome to the forums… :smiley:
