& similar notices (Website cannot be found …)
During past couple of months, I’ve been having similar problems for several websites, using different browsers, on Windows 10 64 bit installations. I’m using Avast Free Antivirus (version 17.7.2314) as a secondary antivirus (supposedly in passive mode) along with Malwarebytes Free, Reason Core Security Free, and weekly scanning with Herd Protect (free “online scanner” using “68 antivirus databases”). Reason Core and Herd Protect are by the same company. I’ve been using Bit Defender Internet Security 2018 (upgraded from 2017) as primary protection suite. However, I have to keep all avast! free antivirus shields disabled, or I cannot access many websites that I access daily or at least weekly. (Tried disabling each antivirus program’s shield(s) one-by-one until found the “culprit”.) This especially concerns me as I want to return to paid avast! Internet Security suite; but cannot if I can only access my most commonly used websites with shields disabled (kinda defeats the whole purpose of the suite).
Backstory: I’d been using Avast Internet Security as a paid suite before switching to Bit Defender, but grew tired of the continuous prompts to upgrade to more comprehensive versions or added modules under avast!. However, Bit Defender began to block access to virtual printers (I like to keep PDF records of online banking activity and bills/invoices from “vendors”) in their banking mode. Avast SafeZone browser doesn’t, so I plan to return to paid avast! when BitDefender subscription runs out. Over the summer, and especially with version 2018 BitDefender has become unpredictably aggressive – especially with “ransomeware” protection. Never certain if I’ll need to disable Bitdefender’s anti-ransome ware for a software upgrade – some fail right away during upgrade, and some upgrades don’t fail until writing desktop short cut fails.
Anyway, these are the kind of websites that I’m having trouble:
• https://outlook.live.com/owa/?realm=hotmail.com [my Hotmail inbox] ***
• https://www.facebook.com/[my Facebook page] ***
• https://www.amazonforum.com/ [and other Amazon.com pages]
• Various amateur author sites, like:
◦ https://castleroland.net/ ***
◦ http://www.storylover.us/ ***
◦ http://www.awesomedude.com/
◦ & others.
*** I am certain that I’ve had trouble with these on multiple browsers a month ago. When behavior repeated today, I immediately checked to see if avast! Shields needed to be disabled (and permanently disabled them]. Will report the *** to check blacklisting via https://www.avast.com/report-a-url.php .
CLARIFICATION: Only paid suite is running as real time monitor. Others are supposed to be set only for on-demand scanning.
