Hallo, I am using Win 11 and Firefox browser. Since yesterday I am struggling to open my Facebook page. When I turn Avast web shields off, then everything is fine. I have add Facebook to the exception list, but still it happens. Everything was fine until yesterday. There is no problem opening any other websites. I tried on Chrome and the same happened. I installed Avast’s own browser and even that does not work. As soon as I disable the web shields, everything is fine.
What can I do to reset this? Thanks for the help
Hi, are you using the paid version of Avast (Avast Premium Security)?
If so, can you check if the problem persists when you only disable the “Real Site” component, while keeping the “Web Guard” component enabled? (these components work together so when you disabled Web Guard, Real Site was also affected)
And if so, can you please try excluding Facebook from the Real Site component? The process is described here: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/188/ (section “How do I set an exclusion for Real Site?“) - make sure you exclude the value dns://*.facebook.com*
If this does not work, can you please send a screenshot of the error you are getting in your browser as you attempt to visit Facebook?
Thanks for the reply.
I have deleted the Facebook exclusion and added it again. It seems Facebook is opening now on Chrome, but only the first post. Then after a while it load the rest. My network is wired on a LAN cable directly to a router on a 100mbs up and down line.
I have attached two screenshots. The one is the exclusion and the other is just Firefox that keeps on running but nothing opens. It is just for Facebook. Other sites open normally
I am using the paid version of Avast Premium Security
Open Avast UI, menu, settings. Click on scam guardian and untick enable QUIC/HTTP3 scanning. This is what’s stopping facebook from loading. Hopefully if enough people report it, it might get fixed in next update
Thanks, but there is no option like “enable QUIC/HTTP3 scanning” under Scam Guardian
Thanks, I found it. It was on another menu. Facebook is opening now as it should.
While I’m glad you found this workaround, it is not a recommended solution, because the QUICK/HTTP3 scanning is an important part of the Web Guard functionality.
Based on the provided screenshot, you excluded Facebook.com from Web Guard, but not from Real Site. If you’d like to exclude just the Real Site functionality, please ensure you past the value dns://*.facebook.com* when creating the exception. That should result in the Exception shown below:
If you’re happy with the current situation where the QUICK/HTTP3 scanning is disabled, you can ignore my suggestion ![]()
Thanks for the suggestion. I have created the exception with “dns” value and still the same problem. Then I left the exception like that and uncheck the QUICK/HTTP3. I am happy at this stage. Maybe Avast make a workaround for it in the program.
Thank you for checking this @jmartinnel! We’ll see what can be done.
Adding that exception didn’t work for me either, so I’ll stick to disabling the QUICK/HTTP3 scanning for now
When will this problem be solved? It’s very annoying. I am paying for a functioning product. This isn’t.
Hi @gebruiker259 , I’m sorry you are also experiencing this issue. Can you please share which web browser you are using?
Also, can you send us a screenshot showing the error in the browser when you attempt to visit Facebook?
Firefox but the same problems with the other browsers.
There is no error. The page keeps on loading but nothing happens. Or the page, like markplaats.nl, loads but without the pictures. Without avast is all works fine.
I’m on the paid version and getting the same thing.. I can’t get to Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn.. No error, just the spinning wheel. Everything works when I disable All Shields.. Very frustrating.
Thank you for the additional info, we are currently investigating this issue. If possible, can you please send us log files from your device? These logs would help with the investigation. The steps are quite complicated, so we respect if you don’t wish to spend time on this process.
A) Generate logs:
- Disable the Avast Self-Defense module in - Avast - Menu - Settings - Troubleshooting - uncheck “Enable Self-Defense”.
- In the same menu, scroll down to the bottom and check the option “Enable debug logging“.
- Download and import the registry file which is attached to this message - double-click it and confirm import of the required keys (they allows debug logs to exceed the default 8 MB file size).
- Ensure that the “QUIC-HTTP3-Scanning” is enabled in Web Guard settings.
- Restart your computer and wait till Avast is fully loaded.
- Open your web browser and attempt to visit Facebook.com - reproduce the loading screen (wait for around 2 minutes, if possible).
B) Submit logs:
- Follow the Support File submission process here: http://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/submit-support-file/
- In the field “Ticket number”, you can use the ID of this thread: 901431
- Finish the support file creation (no need to attach any file).
- Once the support file is created, please share its “File ID” in your response to this message.
C) Clean up:
- (Delete the log file “StreamFilter.log“ - it could grow to a couple of hundreds of MB. You can find it in this directory:
C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\log) - Enable the Avast Self-Defense module in - Menu - Settings - Troubleshooting - check “Enable Self-Defense”.
- In the same menu, scroll down to the bottom and uncheck the option “Enable debug logging“.
Let me know if you have questions.
Avast.StreamFilter.FileLogSize-2GB.reg (538 Bytes)
Same here. Firefox and chrome had problems with facebook, insta, crunchyroll and more
Comet from Perplexity works.
Edit : The problem is by no means new. It’s ancient. There are often massive problems with Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
It hasn’t been as bad as it is today for a long time, but there are always !!! minor problems all few weeks. uncheck the QUICK/HTTP3 is the fix here for me too.
