About once per day I notice that the Avast! e-mail Scanner Service is blocked by my ZoneAlarm. The sender IP address is different each time. ie: 203.147.0.0:40386 or 61.249.5.44:1628. I have checked the OK boxes for avast! e-mail Scanner Service to access my computer in ZoneAlarm. Why is it blocking these accesses, or is it someone else trying to access my computer? ???
a search at SmartWhois says 203.147.0.0. is: Noc Jasmine Internet, Pakkred, Nonthaburi (where ever THAT is). The 61.249.5.44 is: Korea Network Info Center, Seoul, Korea. How are these related to avast!? Or aren’t they? ???
I think that addresses have nothing to do with avast…
The avMaiSv.exe must have access to Internet but do not have to have server rights.
I agree with Technical that those addresses you found with whois had or have nothing to do with Avast.

The server addresses do not belong to Avast.
I am not exactly sure why Avast scanner is registering an attempt to connect unless you have spyware.
Run a spyware scan using Adaware or Spybot S and D.
It is possible that someone is attempting to “hijack” your email list, or you downloaded a trojan which is attempting to connect to a web site where an actual virus will be transmitted back to you.
Do not give permission for these connections. You can go to the Alwil/Avast website and look up the ONLY authorized server addresses.
Today 61.249.4.120 (ONSE Telecom, Korea) and 222.101.168.37 (Korea Telecom Network Management Center) tried to access Avast! e-mail scanner Service. I guess it is trying to get to my e-mail addresses like you say, Techie. All of my scans show clean so I guess it is just random attempts. I shall trust ZA and just ignore them. Is this happening to the rest of you? Check out your ZA alerts.
