Hey all, new to the forums here, so apologies in advance if my question has been previously asked and answered. (I did do a search but came up with nothing).
I am having issues with CutePDF Pro, and their ‘support’ is telling me that it’s a problem with Avast!.
I have paid for the full version of CutePDF, and it has been upgraded to release 3.64. The issues I am running into are whenever I use the ‘advanced’ features of CutePDF (like Typewriter, Form Filler, Commenting, Page Tools, etc- all the things you expect your paid PDF software to do?), when I try to return to the viewer to save the file, CutePDF freezes.
I have contacted AcroSoftware for their assistance, they had me uninstall and reinstall Cute as well as update GhostScript, but I still have these issues, and they have been going on for at least 4 months now. I disabled Avast! when doing the uninstalls & reinstalls, just to see if maybe they were right, but it didn’t change anything.
They’re telling me that ‘That’s definitely the issue caused by your AV software. Nothing we can do about it. That AV software has reputation to block normal software besides virus.’ Does anyone here have any suggestions, other than to not give Acro any more of my money?
I’m not saying Avast! is causing these issues, AcroSoftware support is saying that the reason I am having problems running CutePDF Professional is because Avast! is blocking it. I call BS, but I can’t get any further help from them.
All of the features (to the best of my knowledge) run in the program itself, offline. I do not receive any Avast! popups, which is why I call BS on Acro.
This is why I wanted to come to the forums to see if anyone else had heard of this. Not sure what to do next, other than never give Acro any more of my money. I need a robust PDF program, but I refuse to pay the exorbitant fees of Adobe. /sigh
Which is why I asked the specific questions as avast doesn’t just block without some form of notice/alert. So I’m at a bit of a loss as to why you don’t get any. It could be that whilst they are being checked (not blocked) the program itself records an error condition and doesn’t load.
Do you have this program load on boot ?
If so try stopping that and see if it gets any further.
Check the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report\BehaviorShield.txt (XP location) and see if there are any entries for CutePDF executables/processes ?
If so you could copy and paste that path and file name into the behavior shield, expert settings, trusted processes. You could also set the behavior shield Action to take to Ask. That would at least show if any of its executables are checked.
