I just discover that Avast Free Antivirus is preventing Sysinternal’s Diskvhd (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/disk2vhd) from running correctly. Any time a try to create a vhd from it will throw an “Unable to open disk” error. I’ve tried creating file and app exceptions in Avast and even temporarily disabling all shields but the only thing that makes the issue go away is to completely uninstall Avast.
Hello,
thank you for the notice, but unfortunately we were not able to reproduce the issue. Can you enable a debug logging, induce the issue and then send us a support package, please?
Enabling Debug logging: Open the UI->Menu → Settings → Troubleshooting → Enable debug logging.
Sending the support package: https://support.avast.com/en-in/article/Submit-support-file (and post here the ID of the uploaded package).
Thank you for the help,
Milos

Hello,
from the logs we see that there is an Acronis Protection Service registered, co this could cause a conflict. Can you try to uninstall it, please?
Milos
The same issue is occurring on another computer without Acronis installed.
Hi tlevine,
can you please provide process monitor capture of such failed disk2vhd execution? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon
- Start capturing events in procmon before starting disk2vhd
- Launch disk2vhd and try to create a mirror, wait for failure
- Stop capture and export the resulting log into .pml file File->Save (please tick “All events” in this dialog)
- Upload the .etl file to our FTP https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/FTP-file-upload
Thank you
Uploaded as 248034.zip.
Thank you tlevine, we have identified the problem in our aswArDisk.sys disk filter. This will be fixed in next version.
Great! Thanks.
Has the version with the fix been released yet?
Thanks.
Hello,
it will be released in the version 21.2.
