Avast blocking java.exe from connecting to ticker plant(live stock quotes) on an https page of an e-broking company. Though the company names are displayed, grids where live prices must be displayed are blank. It gives an error as follows:-

                  attempting to connect[1]
                  attempting to connect[2]
                  attempting to connect[3]
                  failed to connect.
                  communication status:null

But when disable all shields of avast, everything works fine.

Though i have tried adding all sorts of exceptions in all types of shields(in expert settings),but nothing seems to work.

Please make appropriate changes to the code to allow java to connect to live stock quotes.

Thank you.

The problem is the JAVA is using an http connection, but probably isn’t using the http protocol (or strictly using it).

There are two options for you:

  1. In the avastUI, Settings, Troubleshooting, Redirect Settings, WEB, Ignored addresses: and enter the IP address of the ticker site.
    Or
  2. In the avastUI, Real-Time Shields, Web Shield, Expert Settings, check the ‘Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only.’

The preferred option would be #1 as you don’t lose the additional web shield protection on other sites.

thanks.
But isnt it safe for avast to stop scanning https connections?

It isn’t stopping scanning https it has never scanned them (we are talking about http connections), the whole point of secure encrypted https traffic is to keep prying eyes out and that includes your AV.

As I mentioned the java.exe is probably using http, otherwise it wouldn’t be going through the web shield proxy so that it can be scanned. To get things working you have to choose one of the two options, option 1 being the better as it is specific to that site and not Internet wide.
