Avast blocking other updates?

I believe Avast is blocking updates for other programmes. I’ve looked at the Exclusions but I just don’t know how to add file paths or anything of that nature.

Of course, it may but be something else entirely that’s causing the problem but Avast is my first stop on the search to find out.
Can anybody help?

Sorry to disappoint you, but avast doesn’t block, it isn’t a firewall, it only scans and alerts to infection and doesn’t block.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

What other programs are you talking about here ?

Other AV programs.
Well, I originally had AVG but it kept going wrong so I changed to Avast. Then just recently I tried Kaspersky. They overcharged me and said they couldn’t give a partial refund only a full one. So I uninstalled that and went back to AVG. Still didn’t like it so returned to Avast. I have done clean uninstalls of the previous two AVs and am as sure as I can be that there are no files lurking in the depths.

The two programs which couldn’t update were Firefox and Adobe - so far.

Does that help?

Try removal tool for avg

I downloaded the AVG removal tool but I don’t know if it worked because I wasn’t asked to restart my pc as the instructions said. So I tried it again and I could still see about 8 AVG files left. Still didn’t have to restart so I’m wondering if the tool has worked.

Download and Run this utility to remove all traces of Kaspersky from the registry:
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463. You might want to print the instructions on the page for use of-line.

You are all being most helpful, thank you.
I downloaded the kavremover but no files were detected and I didn’t understand the last part about command prompts.
I had found a couple of K files in the registry a few days ago and deleted them.

I worked out how to do the command prompt but no Kaspersky shows up at all, so perhaps they’ve all been deleted.

I won’t know if any of your advice has worked until it’s time for another update for FF etc.

Thanks again.

Before doing that reboot, if there were any changes to the registry they wouldn’t take effect until a reboot.
