Avast blocking Thunderbird to GMail SSL connections

In another post I wrote about registration and connection problems. In an attempt to correct these, I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast. Since I have done this, Avast blocks all of my Thunderbird to GMail SSL connections. If I turn the mail shield off, I can send and receive email. If I leave the shield on, but turn off SSL scanning, I can send and receive email, but obviously that email is not being scanned.

How do I fix this. It was working fine before I reinstalled Avast.

Thank you,
David Chamberlain

I believe both could be related, as it sounds more like something is blocking avast.

What is your operating system and firewall ?
Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

Windows 7 64bit.

I have no firewall running on my computer. My internet connection is through a NAT router which acts as a firewall by nature. I don’t see any reason it would be preventing AvastSVC access to the internet.

I have two other computers behind this same NAT router that are not having this problem.

Does the AvastSVC keep any sort of log that might record it’s internet access attempt? That might lend a clue as to why it isn’t getting there.

, I can send and receive email, but obviously that email is not being scanned.
You are still secure, as Gmail have there own virus scanners

Mail Shield does have a scan log. Unfortunately mine is empty, and I don’t know how to turn it on.

You can find all the shield reports here:

Attachment:

I found a procedure for copying certificates that appears to have corrected the SSL problem, at least for now. I do not have a resolution to the registration problem.

I guess it wasn’t as corrected as I thought it was. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Avast to fix the registration problem again, and now SSL is broken again.

This software is starting to get frustrating.
