Latest Avast installed on a Server computer and a Work Computer.
Server Computer is not of a business. Only a private home server.
Recently Avast started blocking uploads to my private server. *.EXE files. I have to turn off the File Shield to let the file through. Once the file is there it’s fine. Avast says it’s clean so do others like Malwarebytes, Webroot, Bitdefender. I can put this file in a zip/rar and it’ll go through fine. Only when the file itself is a .exe it will not. And it doesn’t have to be the same .exe file either. I’ve done tried many times on different .exe’s and came to the same wall. My web server spits out error uploading *******.exe file.
I’ve been using Avast for years and like it’s low resource consumption. I’d hate to have to ditch Avast cause of this little problem.
Sorry but our mind readers are all on holiday.
You will need to provide details yourself.
What OS/SP on the client system ?
What server OS on the server ?
What exact version of avast ?
Any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
I run Apache and no and this setup has been fine since 2005+
It’s only been recent in the last few days since the last Avast update that this problem has occurred.
I’ve been running some EXE test’s and seems to be Setup installer EXE’s that this is happening with. I can toss a reg’ EXE’s just fine but when I try other Installer EXE’s I hit that wall where the avast will block the retrieval of the file to my server. Which then my Website spit’s out error:“Upload Error: Could not upload Attachment to ./*********.exe”
Like I said. If I turn off Avast’s File shield on the Server side I have no trouble uploading it. So I know it’s not a malfunction from the server.
I’ve gone done uninstalled Avast twice to see if I could correct the issue. No go. I’ve even tried going into the File Shield settings and see if I could trace the said settings causing this issue. I can’t seem to find it. Only works if I turn it off. I really don’t wanna turn it off. Just in case a file is getting uploaded that isn’t wanted.
Edit:
I just tried to upload a 15+mb EXE file itself and had no issues. BUT, When I try Installer EXE’s I ran into that wall. Small, Big doesn’t matter.
Could the Heuristics have gotten some how messed with? IDK, I’m at a loss here.
So after testing and retesting all kinds of EXE files and EXE Installer files and checking settings I came across the problem settings.
File System Shield / Packers / Droppers
I’ve done un-stalled Avast 10.4.2233 and re-installed Avast 10.2.2215. That isn’t the problem. Problem is the virus definitions. I can FTP or turn off the File System Shield and have no issues getting the file there. Once the file is there Avast has no issues with it.
Now I don’t have another installer program other then Install Creator Pro. Been using it for YEARS.
Here’s one of my private sites that I have a programs on that I program for.

The files are completely clean.
Tested them with multiple scanners and nothing comes up.
So the problem is on the server machine and with the file shield if I understand it correctly.
Have you tried changing the file shield settings ?
Is the problem only with files that are created with Install Creator Pro or also with other files ?
Often with install creators you can choose the compression type/method that is used.
Have you changing that (if possible) and than tried uploading the file ?
