Avast blocking url links & videos in forums I participate in?

I have Avast version 7.0.1426. Ever since installing it a month or so ago, I have not been able to see videos on the home page or embedded in posts in forums I participate in. Also, I can’t see a lot of links, like youtube links. Everyone else in the forum can see them.

I can view youtube videos when I go to youtube directly. I can see videos on news sites.

I’ve tried unchecking all the internet screens in Avast I can find, but it hasn’t made a difference. I tried turning off Windows Firewall, but it didn’t make a difference (I have firewall on before installikng Avast, and could see the links & videos so I didn’t think that was it).

I can’t think of anything else to do but uninstall it. Any suggestions? These are commonplace videos & links that lots of others are viewing and clicking on with no problem.

When You say blocking… Is there a pop up warning from avast When it happens?
If so Can You attach a screenshot of it?

If you can post a link to the forum topic, post, etc.

What is your browser and what security based add-ons/plug-ins do you have installed in it ?

Avast doesn’t change page content, the links should be there no matter what and your disabling avast without seeing any difference would tend to confirm that.

I have seen strange permission issues in forums before, at one time I couldn’t view embedded images or see attachment links in some avast sub-forums and that was a forum permission issue (not avast AV) and was corrected once the permissions were corrected.

Thanks to both of you for trying to help. I’ve discovered the problem. It’s actually ActiveX filtering, associated with IE9. For some reason, that didn’t cause a problem on those sites until I installed Avast. So maybe it changed an ActiveX filter setting?

So I can turn off the filter on some sites, like this one. On others, turning it off wouldn’t work, but once I added the site to my “trusted sites” (Internet Options/Security), that overrode the ActiveX filtering.

What I would see, BTW, in posts with some links & videos, is just a big white blank space. Nothing at all would be there. I wouldn’t get a message of something being blocked (you know how we get those popup messages that something is trying to download, or something is being blocked, etc.? - I didn’t get that. Just a blank space where something should be).

I’ll check into the ActiveX settings. In the meantime, I can now see the links & videos in the forums if I turn off the filter or add the site to my trusted sites.

Thank you very much for offering to help! ;D

No problem, welcome to the forums.

Some security settings can be very intrusive (once you find out that is causing the problem), it is just finding the balance so you can browse as you normally do.
