Avast blocking visual c++ express?

Hi everyone,

Now I recently downloaded vs c++ express and made a simple hello world program. Only when i ran it, the command prompt didn’t display hello world. It said it couldn’t find the file and avast comes up thinking the code was malware.

Anyone here know how to change this?

Avast normally downloads the MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package if it is not already on the users machine. However you downloaded Visual C++ Express, so I’m not sure how that would interact with the MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package. Perhaps MS would know better.

But to answer your question re: Avast thinking it is malware…what prompt did you get indicating it may be malware?

To better answer your question, I need the following information from you:

  1. What version of Avast are you using and what is your OS?
  2. What other security software do you have on your machine both currently and previously?
  3. Did you run an Avast scan (what type)?
  4. Do you have any on-demand scanners like MBAM (Malwarebytes’ Anti-malware) or SAS?

My guess is that your hello world executable is a false positive. Have you tried uploading it to our virus lab?
