Avast blocking windows activation

Anyone got this problem and found a way to fix it ?

My son’s computer hard disk died, had to buy a new one and reinstall everything fresh. I had a copy of Vista 64 ultimate so I gave it a try.

Once everything is up, 1st thing to do, install the anti-virus. Once Avast was installed, no way to do the activation of windows, it kept blocking me. I had to go in safe mode, de-install avats and then I was able to access my computer and do the activation.

Any setting in the program can stop this from happening ? I’m running avast on 2 other machines, loves it, never had this problem before.

Any clue ?

  • Disconnect from the net (physically)
  • Install Windows
  • Install all drivers
  • Install avast
  • Get/install ALL windows updates

What version of avast?
Do you have three different licenses or a 3 system license?
Do you have a license for Vista for that machine?

For Avast, got 3 free seperate account on each machine, one for me, one for my wife and 1 for my son. They all have their own email registration.

The vista version is a full legit OEM I got with my machine in 2007. It’s a windows vista ultimate 64 bit.

Once I removed Avast, I was able to register my copy and do all the patching. There was a lot of them to be done.

Seems finished now, I’ll reinstall avast and see what happens.
