avast! Blocks Possible FileRepMetagen [Rtk] Virus

I downloaded the GOM Media Player only to discover it didn’t have the sufficient codecs to run any of my mp4 files. It sent me to this page:

http://player.gomlab.com/eng/codec/success.gom?intCodec=219

When I tried to download the codec as instructed the avast! lady informed me that it had just stopped a virus downloading to my computer.

I don’t know whether this is a false positive or not, but either way avast! seems to be on the ball.

I ended up installing KMPlayer, it doesn’t need additional codecs apparently.

OK, thanks Pondus, next time I’ll post in Viruses and Worms forum. 8)

KMPlayer’s far superior to GOM anyway lol ;).

What a crap player if it doesn’t support mp4 by default.

Why not use VLC?

And if you are looking for a video/audio converter have a look at Super.

Thanks Eddy, VLC is good but it doesn’t save the audio filter settings to config after it has been closed. Plus I wanted to have a look at other players if I decide on a new laptop anytime soon, and VLC can void the warranty of some manufacturers. The x64 MPC-HC works perfectly well on my Win 7 desktop, but the 32 bit version won’t run video (audio only) on many files on my Vista x86 laptop. Quite a few people have had the same problems with it. KMPlayer plays anything and rivals VideoLan for features and ability. One caveat, the installer drops a couple of PUPs, harmless enough though, and can be removed with MBAM.

Aha, I see.
Well WinAmp has the option to save the audio settings for each played file, but it is consuming more resources then VLC.
Don’t know about how much KMPlayer is using.

VLC (nor any other player for that matter) will never void the warranty of a system.
On the other hand, changing anything on a system will void warranty if you read the terms/license from the manufacturers and take them literally. Even changing a small setting is not allowed if it was up to them. Luckily we have the laws that allows to use a system like we want. In a normal, decent way, not throwing against a wall or something like that ofcourse. ;D

Since you are busy with audio/video, this may be something for you:

OK thanks again Eddy. I checked task manager and VLC and KMP are about the same on system resources. I hope you’re right about VLC, I suppose I’ll have to definitely carefully read the EULA with any new hardware I purchase. VideoLAN does have a very powerful compressor however, apparently it can damage some small laptop speakers if it’s pushed too high. I’ve been told that because of this certain manufacturers are reluctant to replace speakers under warranty.

I wouldn’t worry much about “pushing it too high”, by the time that happens normally the sound is really horrible to hear.
Unless you have really bad ears you don’t want to listen to it anyway. ;D

But there’s aways someone who’ll try and push it to 400% and wonder why their speakers have exploded. lol

Let’s put some fireworks in the speakers before they do and point a webcam at the speakers ;D

something for Mythbusters ;D

Sounds kinda fun lol.
