Support for older Avast versions will end
https://blog.avast.com/2015/05/06/support-for-older-avast-windows-consumer-version-will-end/
Support and updates for versions 8 and lower will end May 31st, 2015.

About time they cut support for older versions, like those using a different VPS update system. What I find strange in the version release history, versions 8.0.1497 (compatible with Win 8 & Win 8.1) isn’t the last avast 8 build that is 8.0.1506, but that is a build to support upgrade the avast 2014 a.k.a avast 9.0. https://www.avast.com/en-gb/release-history

I just think cutting off avast 8 is a bit too much too soon, given the longevity of avast 4.8 and that avast 9, avast 10 (a.k.a. avast 2014 and 2015) were both release in 2014. I just wonder if avast have the stats for how many users those still getting auto VPS updates via avast 8.0 ?

Some of my major concerns in this is for those:

  1. with older systems that may not have enough resources to be able to update.
  2. if this will be a forced program update as we have seen in some versions in these forums.

@ mchain Thanks for catching this one.

I agree with David too many different versions makes it difficult on servers with all of the vps updates.
v8.0 isn’t that old but v7.0 and older are ancient technology.

At least I’ve got screenshots of older avast a/v’s so I’ll have something to remember them by. ;D
