Avast Boot Time Scan Error 0xC000009C

Hello all,

I wanted to know if someone could provide some assistance on an issue I have been having when I run Avast Boot Time Scan.
For the past couple of times, I have been receiving the the errors below.

File C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prncacla.inf_amd64_19fbb18075fefb90\Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB|>_5_Kolt50vpJyqlets20vm3zt2n4b Error 0xC000009C {STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR}
File C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_prncacla.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17415_none_95dd5540d57f8c01\Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB|>_5_Kolt50vpJyqlets20vm3zt2n4b Error 0xC000009C {STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR}

I decided to use the sfc /scannow check and it did say that there were some corrupted files.
I then used dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth option and it said that the files were repaired.

After both programs ran, I used the sfc /scannow again and it said that “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.” However when I run another Avast Boot Check, the same errors reappear.

I wanted to know if something was wrong with Avast in terms of false positive or if there is something off with my computer.
Has anyone else had any trouble with a similar situation?
Does anyone think it might be a virus?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Is this windows XP ? Lots of info online if you Google the error code and many are related to XP

Why do you run boot scan?

It is Windows 8.1.

As for why I use boot scan, I always thought since it starts before the computer boots, it has access to more of the files on the computer.
Should I be using the Full Scan option if boot scan is not reliable?

Boot scan is something you use IF you have problems removing a infection … it may give better removal for some stubborn malware. It is not meant to be used as a regular scanner.

Frequent scanning is not necessary, all antivirus programs have realtime protection, meaning evrything that goes on inside your computer is monitored / scanned as it happen

Oh okay. That makes sense.

So as for the errors up top, I should be okay trusting the results of the sfc /scannow check.
Everything feels alright as of now when I am using my laptop.
I just wasn’t sure if one set of results takes priority over another and what that means.
