Avast boot-time scan

I really, thoroughly detest the fact that Avast runs a complete scan every single time I reboot my computer!! I use this computer to work on other computers and their hardware, and having to wait at least 15 minutes every single time I reboot my computer for Avast to finish its totally unnecessary scan is highly annoying at the very least.

FYI, I am an IT Professional, having worked in the IT field for at least the past 30 years. Despite my digging as deeply into Avast as I can, I cannot find any way to turn that damned scan off.

I am about ready to dump Avast and go back to AVG…which has its own “issues”.

Any help out there?

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

avg = avast

What indications are you getting that a full scan is going on ?

As You may know (or not) AVG, is now a part of Avast Software.

There is no setting in avast to run a ‘Full Scan’ I don’t know if you have made any changes to avast, so I would suggest ‘Saving your current settings’ (avastUI > Settings > General, scroll down to the bottom of the screen) and then use the Restore Factory defaults (avastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting, scroll down to the Restore Factory Defaults).

I think the OP is talking about the boot time scan which for some strange reason happens every time he/she reboots the PC.

I think there’s a registry value that may need to be changed here if there’s no unschedule option in the boot time scan options.

Guys, let him answer the questions in Reply #1 first.

Quite right. I posted a link to an older forum post that may have been of some help, or provide a guidance to make the changes. That post I made was removed by a moderator for some reason, which is the second post I made deleted. I hope someone will be able to guide him in making a registry change, since I’m not allowed to!

Of course those posts are deleted.
You are giving false/wrong advise.
Please do not try to help people here.

kgordon2006: can you please post the file c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\aswBoot.log here? It could tell us what’s happening.
Thanks.
(The boot-time scan is only supposed to run once, it’s not normal that it’s running on every boot.)

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)

IS

  • Which version…?

17.4.2294 (Build 17.4.3284.0)

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)

64 bit, Win10 Pro Latest update. I have not bothered to look for the latest build. This was an upgrade from Win 7 Pro.

  • Other security related software installed…?

Acronis Active Protection (Turned off) (In my experience, installing two or more anti-malwares and expecting them to play nicely together is not possible.)

  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

None, on this computer.

A new program version has just been released, https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=204588.0 17.5.2302. You may want to do a program update to see if you still have the problem.

However you should follow Igor’s request (Senior Avast Team member) - before any other action - use the Attachments and other options, below the reply window.

OK. I updated my Avast. I still have the problem. It takes 11 minutes to complete its scan every single time I reboot my 'pooter. I’ll provide the info Igor asked for later today. I am dealing with some very difficult personal health issues, so I am slow to respond. Later.

OK, whenever you are ready.
