Avast Boot Time Scan

As a long time Avast user I have done a regular monthly Boot Time Scan as part of my security regime for years and I noticed today that, along with the updated appearance of the set-up page there is a recommendation that users only run the scan if they suspect there is malware present on the device.

I am puzzled by this because firstly, the danger with rootkit malware has always been that it is designed to be undetectable to the normal user and secondly, the USP of the Boot Time Scan was that it could find not only that type of hidden malware but also something that had been installed but not yet activated, meaning regular scans were a good thing to do.

Is there a reason for this apparent change of attitude to use of the Boot Time Scan?

Thank you for the reply, I was unaware that Avast did that post start-up scan. Is there any documentation where I can learn more about it?

avast perform a rootkit scan 8 min after startup, so no need to do that

Malware that is detected on behavior may not be detected by boot scan because they dont run.

Boot time scan is a special tool to be used when you have problems removing/cleaning a file.
In the old days when you had real virus (file infectors) that infected system files, you had to start in safe mode and run antivirus to clean
(antivirus could not scan/clean files that where in use/running)
