Avast Build 2242?

Is this a new update that i just got?

It seems to be a new Beta.

DJBone

I saw after i rebooted, but will we get the changelog today?

Or only tomorrow?

It seems very light on detail on what is in this and what it resolves.

I just wonder what is there that would warrant going to beta again, nothing I see in there appears to effect my XP system and nothing that would appear to resolve browsing, email and other issues still unresolved.

How do i switch from beta to stable?

Hi MegaV0lt

There is no switch from Beta to Stable.

When you have once installed a Beta, you are on the Beta channel, and new Beta’s will be offered to you.
Of course you can decide, if you have the right settings in Avast, not to install a Beta.
But if you want to quit Beta testing, you have to do a clean install :

Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast.

Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

Disconnect from the internet.
Uninstall Avast via control panel.

Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode.
Once complete reboot your system.
Reinstall Avast.

Greetz, Red.

Why so complicated?
This procedre will cost me two reboots whitch take at least 15 minutes each…

You should at leat mention that on the beta downlodpages!

That is part and parcel of participating in beta testing, not to mention it could be even more serious if it had a conflict with something on your system. You could end up with restoring to an earlier point in time, assuming you have made system restore points or using disk imaging software.

Beta testing isn’t something to take lightly.

Whilst you could get away with just uninstalling and reinstalling - we (avast users) tend to advise - it is often better to take the extra steps. It may be quicker in the long run, if you had to repeat it and use the uninstall tool step also.

I would have to wonder about your system resources/setup if a reboot takes 15 minutes. Even on this relatively old XP Pro system it takes a couple of minutes tops.

long boottime is because may sytem is running over 6 years already with a lot of programs. ti is stable, but i do not want to install new.

Athlon XP 2000, 2Gb ram, Windows XP
Booting takes 3-4 minutes.

If your boottime really is around 15 minutes it is time for a thorough cleanup.
There is either something really wrong or (most likely) you have a lot of things loading at boottime that are not needed.
