Avast Business Basic and Avermedia Remote console for DVR issues.

I am having a problem connecting to my DVR system (locally) on two different computers when I install Avast Business Basic. The program is called Remote Console and is just a remote viewer app for Avermedia DVRs (similar to Geovision Multi-view). Connection port is 5550. Here is what I’ve tried:

  • Adding to exclusions (both file and URL)
    - Disabling fully

I’ve done other things such as disable Windows firewall …etc, but I know it is caused from Avast so those are not important. The only thing that fixes the issue is disabling Web Shield. I current don’t have Avast on those two systems. I just can’t seem to figure out what module is blocking the connection (or program) from connecting to the DVR. The program opens fine, runs fine, just when you try to connect…you get “Login failed”. If I uninstall, it works perfectly.

If disabling the program completely doesn’t fix the issue, then I don’t know what setting will to be honest.

Thanks,

Matt

UPDATE: Disabling Web Shield fixes issue. Now I need to find out what inside of Web Shield is causing the problem.

Where/how did you set the exclusions ?
You need to set them through the dashboard, not on the client system.

Trying that now. Thanks!

No go on exclusions. But to be honest, if shutting down all shields doesn’t work on both PCs, how would adding exclusions work?

Is there anything mentioned in a log about that is possibly related to the problem ?

Where would this log be? Local or remote?

Thanks!

I just tried on my system, it will connect when I disable shields so it must be a setting in Avast then.

Web Shield is blocking it.

Have any tips on where the logs are so I can narrow this down and figure out ‘what’ in Web shield is blocking this program?

UPDATE:

Here is an old post with the same problem:

Unfortunately, an answer was never found I guess. I would love to continue using Avast on all of my systems instead of using something else on these two computers

  • Windows 2000, Windows XP - C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avast Software\Avast\Log
  • Vista, Win7 (and later) - C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\Log.
Some may also be in the respective \Report folder.

Checking now

Do you know what log file is specific for Web Shield?

Solved:

I got it fixed for anyone having a similar problem. I had to add the program to the “Processes to Exclude” list under exclusions in Web Shield.

Thanks for the help!

One problem less in the world
